This is the second of my black books, and it goes deeper than the first. Sortebog No. 1 only hinted at it. This one puts its hands into the body: the blood, the womb, the fever, the teeth and the skin.

It is a book for when the body does not obey. When illness comes and no one listens. When the priest has gone, the doctor shakes his head, and your own hands are all you have left. The rites in it were passed down in gestures more than words, in what the midwives did when no one was looking.

Inside the book

  • Rites for fever, bleeding and pain: the coldbone rite, bloodbound, to stop the red tide, the red thread beneath, the turning, and when the milk goes quiet
  • The old ways of leading sickness out of the body and into something else: the blade that takes it, the doll of rag and straw, and the passing of the vein
  • The stormbinder, skiftetid for the times you are between one self and the next, and the goat-knot to guard the weak
  • The body part by part: the womb, mouth, hands, spine, stomach, tongue, ears, feet, eyes, skin, nails, blood and teeth, with what the old women believed about each and the rites that belong to it
  • Stories from the villages, and the dried knowledge the black books kept
  • Five body charms to finish

Use it alongside your doctor, never instead of one. This is what you do as well.

What you receive: a 58-page PDF in English that you can download the moment you have paid. Yours to keep. Buying it means you ask for the file straight away, so the 14-day right of withdrawal ends once it is delivered.
