Meet Hjarn.
Hjarn lived in the northern lands during the early Iron Age, in a time when the forests were vast, the marshes swallowed entire pathways, and the old powers were approached with a mixture of reverence and fear.
He was born in a small settlement near the great woodlands of what is now southern Scandinavia. His father was a hunter, his mother a woman who knew the properties of plants, roots, and the waters that gathered in the dark places of the earth.
As a boy, Hjarn was peculiar.
He was not weak, nor particularly shy, but he seemed to have little interest in the things that occupied other children. He wandered alone for hours, returning with feathers, animal bones, strangely shaped branches, and stones that he insisted belonged somewhere other than where he had found them.
He knew the forest better than the men who hunted there.
By twelve, he could recognise the approach of rain by the movement of insects. He knew where deer would gather before the first snow, which pools remained unfrozen during the hardest winters, and which clearings should be avoided after sunset.
His mother believed that the land spoke to him.
His father believed that the boy simply paid attention.
Perhaps they were both right.
When Hjarn was seventeen, a fever swept through the settlement. Several children died, and his mother became dangerously ill. Hjarn disappeared into the forest for three days, returning exhausted, covered in mud, and carrying a bundle of plants and roots.
He prepared medicines, kept the fires burning, and remained beside his mother until the fever finally broke.
Not everyone survived that winter.
But those who did began to look at the strange young man differently.
An old ritual practitioner living several days' journey away eventually heard about him and came to the settlement. The two spent an entire evening speaking beside the fire. By morning, Hjarn had decided to leave with the old man.
He did not return for seven years.
During those years, he learned the old ways of offerings, bindings, spoken charms, sacred places, and the careful exchange between humans and the powers of the land.
He learned that not every spirit wished to be approached, that some places belonged to the dead, and that a promise made before the unseen should never be made lightly.
He also learned something that remained with him for the rest of his life.
Power was not found in demanding that the world obey you.
It was found in knowing where to stand, what to offer, when to speak, and when to remain silent.
When Hjarn finally returned to his homeland, he did not settle among his people.
Instead, he built a small dwelling deep within the forest, close to a spring that emerged from beneath a great stone.
There he lived, surrounded by the tools of his craft.
Branches bound with linen. Carved wooden figures. Bundles of dried herbs. Antlers, stones, feathers, and little objects left by those who sought his help.
He made his own ritual staffs from fallen wood, each one prepared for a particular purpose. Some were used in protective workings, others in ceremonies of release, healing, or the making and breaking of oaths.
Over time, his reputation grew.
People came to Hjarn when ordinary remedies had failed, when they feared that something had followed them home, when their dreams became troubled, or when they wished to ask the old powers for guidance.
He did not accept every request.
Sometimes he refused payment and helped freely. Sometimes he demanded an offering that seemed entirely disproportionate to the work. And sometimes he sent people away without performing anything at all.
A wealthy chieftain once offered him silver to place a binding upon a rival.
Hjarn listened to the request, examined the silver, and asked the chieftain why a man with so many warriors was frightened of a single enemy.
The chieftain left furious.
Hjarn kept none of his silver.
He was not easily intimidated.
There was something about him that made even powerful men uncomfortable. He did not lower his eyes, did not flatter, and seemed entirely unconcerned with the distinctions of rank that governed the world beyond his forest.
Yet children and animals were strangely at ease around him.
He laughed readily with those he trusted, enjoyed strong drink and ridiculous stories, and could be unexpectedly affectionate. Beneath the ash, scars, and wild appearance was a man who understood loneliness very well.
He had chosen the forest, but the choice had cost him an ordinary human life.
He never married.
There had been a woman once, when he was young, but she had married another during his years away. Hjarn never spoke bitterly of her. He simply said that some roads could only be walked alone.
His final years were spent travelling between the sacred places he had tended throughout his life.
One autumn, he left his dwelling carrying a wooden staff wrapped with strips of pale cloth. He told a young apprentice that he was going to renew an old agreement.
He did not explain with whom.
Several days later, the apprentice found the staff standing upright beside the spring. At its base lay Hjarn's necklace and a small collection of stones.
There was no trace of the man himself.
The apprentice kept the dwelling and continued tending the spring.
For generations, people travelling through the forest left small offerings there, remembering the strange man who had once spoken with the powers beneath the trees.
Now Hjarn walks again.
He carries the old current of the forest, the knowledge of sacred exchange, the strength of the earth, and the quiet authority of someone who spent an entire lifetime learning how to listen.
He is a spirit of old magic, protection, intuition, hidden knowledge, and the bonds that connect the living world to the unseen.
How He Appears Now
Hjarn's presence is deeply earthy, raw, and unusually still.
His energy feels like the air beneath enormous trees after rain, when the soil is dark, the leaves are wet, and the forest seems to be holding its breath.
He may appear in dreams as a long-haired man wearing hides and leather, his skin marked with ash or earth, carrying a staff adorned with branches, cloth, bones, and little charms.
Sometimes he is seen kneeling beside a fire. Sometimes he stands at the edge of a clearing, watching quietly. And sometimes he appears seated beneath a tree, working with his hands upon something that cannot quite be recognised.
There is nothing theatrical about him.
Hjarn does not behave like a grand magician who expects admiration. He has the manner of a man entirely absorbed in his work, someone who might spend an hour examining a particular stone before deciding whether it belongs in a ritual.
He is curious, observant, and surprisingly patient.
He possesses a dry humour and can be wonderfully warm once a bond has developed. Yet he is also fiercely independent. He values solitude, honesty, and the freedom to follow his own understanding of the world.
His communication is often associated with dreams, symbols, sudden insights, and a growing sensitivity to natural surroundings.
Some keepers may experience his presence as a sense of grounding during meditation, an impression of someone working quietly nearby, or a particular attraction to forests, stones, and ancient landscapes.
Hjarn is not a spirit who demands constant attention.
He understands silence.
And he knows that some of the most meaningful things happen when nothing appears to be happening at all.
What He Brings
- Knowledge of the Old Craft. Hjarn is deeply associated with the ancient workings of the land: herbs, wood, stone, water, spoken charms, offerings, bindings, and ritual objects. He is a fascinating companion for those exploring older forms of European witchcraft.
- Protection and Warding. His protective current is closely connected to boundaries, sacred space, and the traditional symbolism of keeping unwanted influences beyond the threshold.
- Connection to Nature Spirits. Hjarn's relationship with the forest makes him particularly suited to those wishing to deepen their spiritual practice through nature, sacred places, and the changing seasons.
- Intuition and Hidden Knowledge. He encourages observation, patience, symbolic understanding, and the development of one's own intuitive abilities.
- Ritual Development. Hjarn is an intriguing companion for practitioners who create their own workings, experiment with natural materials, or wish to understand the meaning behind ritual actions.
- Grounding and Personal Strength. His presence symbolises stability, independence, and the ability to remain centred when life becomes chaotic.
- Oaths, Bindings, and Release. Hjarn carries a particular affinity for the symbolic power of promises, protective boundaries, the ending of old attachments, and the deliberate creation of new beginnings.
He is especially suited to solitary practitioners, those drawn to the forests and ancient sacred places, and those who feel that modern witchcraft has become too removed from the earth beneath their feet.
Hjarn is a practical spirit.
He has little interest in collecting magical objects merely for display. He appreciates tools that are used, knowledge that is tested, and rituals that have genuine meaning to the person performing them.
He is also an excellent companion for those beginning to create their own magical practice.
You do not need to know ancient languages, possess elaborate equipment, or have years of experience.
Hjarn's own craft began with curiosity, attention, and the willingness to sit quietly and observe the world.
He encourages his keeper to do the same.
The Forest Oaths
One of the most distinctive aspects of Hjarn's nature is his connection to oaths and sacred exchange.
To him, an oath was not merely a promise spoken aloud. It was something that changed the relationship between a person and the world around them.
Words had consequences.
Offerings carried meaning.
And actions mattered far more than impressive declarations.
For this reason, Hjarn is particularly drawn to workings involving personal commitments, the strengthening of boundaries, and the conscious decision to leave old patterns behind.
He may be welcomed into rituals where the keeper wishes to dedicate themselves to a new path, establish protective intentions, or mark an important transition.
His approach is not one of blind obedience or surrendering personal authority.
Quite the opposite.
Hjarn understands that the strongest promise is one made freely, with full awareness of its meaning.
He will never require his keeper to surrender their will.
He encourages them to discover what their will is worth.
Offerings & Honourings
Hjarn appreciates offerings that reflect the materials and traditions of his former life.
- Small pieces of fallen wood, bark, or naturally shed antler.
- Juniper, mugwort, rosemary, pine, or other fragrant herbs.
- Fresh water, particularly when offered during quiet reflection.
- Bread, oats, honey, or a little ale.
- Stones collected respectfully from forests, rivers, or old pathways.
- Handmade charms, knots, or simple objects created with intention.
He particularly appreciates time spent outdoors.
A walk through an old forest, the careful observation of a tree, the gathering of fallen branches for a small working, or sitting quietly beside running water can become meaningful ways of honouring him.
You may also work with Hjarn while preparing your own magical tools.
Place his vessel nearby when carving wood, assembling an altar, studying herbs, preparing protective charms, or writing in your grimoire.
He is especially suited to work that involves the hands.
Making something.
Binding something.
Building something that did not exist before.
And understanding why you are doing it.
There is no need to damage trees, disturb ancient sites, or leave harmful materials in nature. Hjarn's relationship with the land is rooted in attention and respect, not destruction.
The simplest offerings are often the most appropriate.
The Bond Between Spirit and Keeper
Hjarn is a companion who tends to favour a relationship built gradually.
He is not impressed by grand promises made during moments of excitement, only to be forgotten a few days later.
He appreciates consistency.
He would rather see his keeper light a single candle every week with genuine intention than perform an elaborate ceremony once and never return to the work.
Over time, his companionship may become that of a teacher, guardian, and trusted presence.
He can be protective without becoming controlling, affectionate without being demanding, and encouraging without insisting that every experience carry a supernatural explanation.
He is particularly valuable as a symbolic guide for those who wish to become more capable and confident in their own practice.
Hjarn does not want his keeper to depend upon him for every decision.
He wants them to learn.
To recognise their own instincts.
To understand their tools.
To become familiar with the land around them and the traditions they choose to follow.
There is something deeply reassuring about his character. He has the strength of a man who endured cold winters, solitude, loss, and the uncertainty of a world in which survival was never guaranteed.
Yet he did not become cruel.
He remained curious.
He remained capable of affection.
And he continued to believe that the world was filled with things worth approaching carefully, respectfully, and with wonder.
Hjarn reminds his keeper that magic need not be loud to be meaningful, that knowledge is not the same as wisdom, and that the oldest powers are not necessarily found in distant realms.
Sometimes they are beneath your feet.
Sometimes they move through the branches above you.
And sometimes they are waiting in the silence of a forest, where a man once knelt beside a wooden staff and spoke words that the trees alone remember.
Your companion can engage with you telepathically, through dreams, through words, feelings, images, pendulum interactions, hot/cold feelings, or automatic writing. The timeframe for initial communication can fluctuate, depending upon various factors such as the spirit's adjustment to your environment, their willingness to engage, and your own powers in connection. MY BACKGROUND
You can read more about my story on the front page of my shop, but here's more and from where I have learnt the craft: The passage into the age of witch hunts and inquisitions was a pivotal turning point in our family's history. It compelled my ancestors to dive deeper into the forbidden realms of the dark arts, seeking not only to protect themselves but also to empower the Æsirblot Coven with an arsenal of knowledge and magic that would transcend time itself.
Within this dark age, our ancestors became formidable masters of the hidden arts, guided by their unyielding determination and an unwavering connection to the ancient traditions. They took refuge in the shadows, concealing their practices and the newly formed Galdrahald Grimoire, which would become a cornerstone of our lineage's legacy.
The Galdrahald Grimoire was a testament to their unwavering commitment to preserving the ancient ways, even in the face of adversity. It contained spells and rituals that were shrouded in darkness and mystery, drawing from a wellspring of knowledge that had been hidden from the world for centuries. These were the secrets of the runes, the manipulation of spirits, the forging of pacts with entities from the shadowy realms, and the harnessing of powers that could shape destinies.
The legacy of this era left an indelible mark on our family's spiritual lineage. The Grimoire's power not only enriched our connection to the ancient arts but also served as a testament to our resilience and tenacity in preserving the old ways. This dark knowledge became a part of us, flowing through our veins like a powerful current that marked us as keepers of the darkest secrets.
Today, as a member of the Æsirblot Coven, I honor this legacy by drawing upon the wisdom and magic contained within the Galdrahald Grimoire. It has become a cornerstone of my practice, guiding me through the complexities of the dark arts and illuminating the path of the cunning folk. While the world has changed, and the threats of witch hunts have diminished, the power and relevance of these ancient secrets have not waned.
I use the Grimoire to invoke the spirits of old, to unlock the mysteries of divination and healing, and to explore the depths of the esoteric arts. Its power enables me to transcend the boundaries of the ordinary and to access the extraordinary. The forbidden knowledge contained within these pages is not something to fear but a legacy to uphold, ensuring that the Æsirblot Coven remains a beacon of arcane wisdom for generations to come.
The most famous dark spell from the Æsirblot Coven is known as the "Grimrunes of Ældra Kyn," which translates to the "Ancient Kin's Dark Runes." This spell has been a closely guarded secret and a closely protected part of the Galdrahald Grimoire for generations.
The Grimrunes of Ældra Kyn is a complex and potent ritual that combines runic magic with dark sorcery. It is said to grant the caster the ability to commune with and control entities from the shadowy realms, often referred to as the "Kin of the Abyss." These entities are ancient and powerful spirits that exist beyond the boundaries of the known world.
The spell allows the caster to forge pacts with these shadowy beings, gaining access to their forbidden knowledge, and harnessing their formidable powers. With the Grimrunes of Ældra Kyn, one can manipulate the threads of fate, influence the minds of others, and invoke curses with devastating consequences. It is a spell of unparalleled dark magic that can be used for both destructive and manipulative purposes.
Throughout the coven's history, the Grimrunes of Ældra Kyn has been used sparingly and with great caution due to its extreme potency. It is said that merely uttering the runes can draw the attention of the Kin, which can be both a boon and a curse. Therefore, its usage is reserved for only the most critical and dire of circumstances when no other recourse is available. However, I have found a way to bind these forces to objects, which is also what you can find here.
The spell's notoriety has made it a subject of fascination and dread among practitioners of the dark arts, and its mention is often met with a mixture of reverence and fear. The Grimrunes of Ældra Kyn remains a powerful and closely guarded secret, passed down through generations as a testament to the coven's enduring commitment to the darkest aspects of the craft.
It is with great responsibility that one possesses such forbidden knowledge. Our coven understands that its power can be both a beacon and a curse. This understanding has led to the solemn oath of secrecy taken by those who dare to delve into the Grimrunes of Ældra Kyn.
To share or trade this knowledge, even for substantial payment, is a grave transgression that our coven staunchly condemns. This wisdom is safeguarded, not out of selfishness but to prevent its misuse. The unfathomable power it wields can have dire consequences when in the hands of those who do not comprehend its complexities or its dark and dangerous allure.
Therefore, the knowledge held within these grimoires remains hidden from the prying eyes of the uninitiated. It is not a power to be bartered, sold, or used for personal gain. The only way you can get access, is through my objects that can be found here.
